Personality & Traits

General Overview Lirien is both personable and professional, but a bit distant and can come off as frosty. She is proficient in Romulan martial techniques as well as Vulcan (though she has been unable to master the nerve pinch). Her talents and professionalism are balanced by her doubts as a young officer to fulfill her leadership duties, but anything is better than being stuck planetside. Lirien moves forward at full impulse, though she's not sure if it's away from her own thoughts, or toward something bigger than herself.
Strengths & Weaknesses + A good instinct for when someone is telling the truth or lying, cultivated by the byzantine political maneuverings of Romulan Society.
+ Practiced Stoicism
- Slow to open up to others and build connections, abandonment issues that she understands logically but that knowledge doesn't completely help.
- PTSD from her harrowing past that, when certain triggers occur, can send Lirien into a rage
Ambitions Forward momentum is the name of her game, and Starfleet's mission of exploration is one that Lirien takes seriously. She also has a very serious collection of music from across multiple Federation worlds.
Hobbies & Interests Alien Culture, in particular music. Lirien has her mother's gift of voice, and plays a number of instruments, the Romulan Duduk, Classical Guitar, Pan flute and Vulcan Lyre in particular.

Personal History Her parents met during the Dominion War, and at its close, married despite the best judgment of all involved. Her father was a Romulan diplomat from a respected family, and her mother a Starfleet Science Officer. Lirien's brother preceded her by a year.

Lirien arrived on October 27, 2377 by Earth measurement, under the auspicious sign of Lhaoen the water serpent. She was born at her father's family estate on Romulus, under the Blossoming autumn leaves of the Verelan Tree at the heart of the estate's hedge garden, and the first few years of her life she wanted for nothing. Her parents tutored her in the customs of both her peoples, though when her father first showed her the classic forms of Romulan martial combat, there was a brief protest from her mother. Lirien and Gabriel both took to it, and she still has the memory of the pride on her father's face as she excelled.

Soon after, a rogue faction assassinated the entire Romulan senate and initiated a conflict with Starfleet, and the ensuing chaos resulted in old blood feuds finding new lease. Her father's marriage and children with a Human made him a target, and they left Romulus under pursuit, on the move for some time, until her father determined to return to Romulus to settle things with Romulan honor. Lirien, her mother and brother were left in the custody of the secretive Qowat Milat, who kept them hidden in a far corner of the Empire. There, Lirien learned more with the sword, but rival factions eventually discovered them, and they were forced to flee again.

It was while they were in the process of being smuggled to Federation space that her mother died protecting Lirien and Gabriel. Soon after, they arrived on Vulcan and were adopted by her mother's old shipmate, Commander Sovek, and his wife T'Pren. The records were forged by Starfleet Intelligence and Lirien and Gabriel were brought up as Vulcans. A few years later, the threat disappeared with the destruction of Romulus.

When she was old enough, Lirien applied to Starfleet Academy, where she attended for three years, quickly leaning into her talents and picking the Security track. She graduated and was placed on her first assignment aboard the Gagarin-class USS Reznik, which patrolled the lawless borders of Federation space.

In 2401, along with the rest of the fleet, the Reznik participated in Frontier Day, and was part of the disastrous conflict created by the Borg. Lirien was one of the lucky few younger officers who was not assimilated, though she and Starfleet Medical are still unsure how that happened. She helped fend off the internal attack on her ship, and was rewarded with a promotion in the aftermath.

Not long after, Lirien was offered a position aboard the USS Kepler as Chief Tactical Officer, which she accepted with reservations out of a sense of duty, the losses so steep from the Borg attack that she couldn't refuse in Starfleet's hour of need.
